Hey Olie,
My name is Olie Arnold and I’m a menswear consultant and stylist. Over my career I’ve worked extensively in editorial roles, where I continue to do that today as Contributing Fashion Editor at Esquire. Ten years ago I took those skills and sensibilities into the digital retail world, where, until recently, I worked as the style director at Mr Porter.
How did you meet Adam?
Adam and I met through Mr Porter where we stocked TWC, and then I had the privilege of collaborating with him when we launched the in-house label, MR. P. Getting to work first hand with him on that project was a great insight into how real menswear should be designed, something that he and his team apply to TWC today.
What’s drew you to pick these pieces you wore?
Well, I’m currently writing this from Arugam Bay on the East coast of Sri Lanka where my family and I have spent the summer. Adam got in touch just before we left and mentioned these new designs and challenged me to style and model them! I’m normally the other side of the camera, so this was a little nerve wracking but it became a real family effort and I think the pictures came out well. Even my 11 year old son took one of the shots, as he’s an aspiring photographer.
Stylistically, I’ve always been influenced my skate and surf culture and have been riding skateboards, surfboards and snowboards most of my life. A hoody and tee are staples in my wardrobe and the tie dye design of these pieces suited the environment of “A-Bay” perfectly. The weight of the jersey is spot on, not too heavy for the heat, but not to flimsy either so there’s some structure to the piece.
What are you up to?
I’ve just launched my consultancy business, where I’ve been working with brands to assist on their position in the market and helping develop ways to push their brand and product lines into new areas of interest. Having a deep understanding of creative brand direction and positioning, combined with a strong design aesthetic within the menswear landscape has allowed me to start this journey and I’m super excited about the potential it offers.
I’m also about to launch a newsletter on Substack called H.O.W (How Olie Wears), which will be my complete guide to menswear, specifically through my lens. Creating instructional and inspiring content was something we really pioneered at Mr Porter and I’m really looking forward to reshaping that and sharing my knowledge and taste with men looking for year round stylish solutions.
