A chat with Will, AKA "The Dons Club"

We've been longterm followers of "The Dons Club" on Instagram, Will has featured a few of our items that he's purchased over the years and his style, quality of work and general vibe is a lovely fit with TWC.

This summer was the perfect time for Will to try out a few items from our recent collection. It's always interesting to see how guys outfit our products and we think you'll agree that Will has a great sense of style.

We recently caught up with Will for a chat, he's such a genuinely lovely guy. We thought we'd share a little more about him and his lifestyle.

Q. Hey, could you start by introducing yourself to our audience and sharing a bit about your background and career so far?"

A. My name is Will and I am a content creator focusing on sartorial menswear. I’m based in Munich, Germany and have a German/Swedish background. The name of my Instagram profile “The Dons Club”  came from a group of friends from childhood days where we described ourselves as Dons. It stuck to say the least..

I’ve been in the menswear industry pretty much all my professional career and have always been interested in craftsmanship and going about producing the actual garments.

Q. What’s your connection to TWC and how did you first cross paths with the brand?

A. It must have been around 2020 during the pandemic. I was at home with too much time on my hands looking for a denim jacket. As there are so many different iterations out there, it was not easy finding the right one for me. Having gone down the google search engine rabbit hole and reading up on reviews I stumbled on TWC and bought my very first denim (Birch) jacket. The fit, the quality of denim and the details were exactly what I had in mind and never looked back.

Q. What drew you to select the pieces that you chose to wear from TWC’s collection?

A. I really like the heritage and the honoring of past silhouettes whilst incorporating updated fabrics and fits. When it came down to choosing the items I wanted it to be items that are versatile and receive patina and character over time. That’s what I ultimately like with clothing. Creating memories and giving these pieces a personal lived in look.

My personal favourite from this collection is the Bedford jacket. An homage to the classic Barn jacket from the 1920s, this piece stays true to the original and I have to say, it is quickly becoming a go-to item.

Q. Do you have an ultimate/favourite item of clothing that you own?

A. Honestly, it is tough to say. I own a few beautiful pieces and couldn’t put my finger on one item. However, my longest kept piece of clothing in my wardrobe is my first leather jacket I got for my 16th birthday. It’s a motorcycle inspired jacket by Polo Ralph Lauren and has been with me through thick and thin (literally). Another nod to how great things age. It’s got a unique patina and the lining has been ripped up inside in several areas. Still, it is going strong and fits me better than before.

Q. Slight subject change now, what would be your pick for one desert island album?

A.  You know, Music is not my strong suit. I like a mix of genres and would consider myself a multicultural guy when it comes to music. My best friend made a playlist for my 30th birthday and put the best of our tastes in there, so, if possible, I would go for that playlist. Sometimes I’m feeling rap, a few minutes later classic jazz, a little funk can go a long way. You know, it’s a mood thing.

Q. You live in Munich—what are some tips for cool places to visit?

A. Munich has been my permanent home for the past 12 years. There are a few nice places to go and visit. One would be to see the Eisbach Surfers. It’s a man-made wave in the English garden river frequently visited by surf enthusiasts, quite unique. Next would be the different lakes we have to offer. Each of the 5 lakes offer incredible landscapes and breathtaking views depending on your route.

Food and Drink wise, we have so much to offer that it would take a while answering the question. However, my absolute favorite restaurant to go to is the “Petit Fritz” a bistro-style restaurant offering simple French cuisine but always good. The place is always packed, and you can’t reserve a table. It’s the ease of going there, ordering a nice glass of French red wine and waiting to be seated to enjoy your Steak Frites that gets me.

Q. You have a connection to the UK, how does living in Germany differ from living in the UK?

A. I was born in the UK. During my high school years I went to boarding school in Scotland and England, playing rugby and getting to all sorts of trouble. I’ve always had a deep relationship to the country and frequently visit London. I love the different vibes the city has to offer and of course visiting some of my favorite shops that have their stores there. It’s like walking through an online shop. After Munich, if I could choose where to live, it would be London!

Q. Lastly, what is the best piece of advice you have been given?

A. The best advice I received was from my father at a young age. He used to wear suits during the week, always ironed to perfection and some sort of tailoring on the weekend (I guess that is why I have such a deep connection to the craft).  He told me “ Always dress well, you never know who you might meet on that day and you want to make a lasting impression.”
