Our Moreton parka in olive dry wax cotton from Halley Stevensons of Dundee, made in Devon to a 1980s field pattern that has never changed. A fully waterproof drop lining sits behind the wax, so it keeps out the rain while looking every bit a traditional waxed jacket.

It has a full zip, but pull in the drawcords at the waist and hem and it closes up. The large front pockets are stitched lightly at the sides on purpose, a detail kept from the original pattern. Pull the stitching open and each pocket expands to carry more. If you’d rather keep them fixed, any tailor can sew them closed.

The Lining

Behind the dry wax sits a fully waterproof drop lining. The waxed outer sheds wind and showers, and the lining stops anything that gets through.

The Hood

The hood is part of the parka, not an add-on. Draw it in close when the wind picks up, or leave it down when you don’t need it.

The Front Pockets

Left as they are, the pockets sit flat and neat. Open the side stitching and they take a map, a flask or a spare pair of gloves. It’s your choice, and they can always be sewn closed again later.
