TWC x Mackintosh - AW20 Launch

This autumn sees two British menswear stalwarts – The Workers Club and Mackintosh – collaborate on an exclusive capsule collection, which plays to both brands’ strengths.

Focused on functional outerwear, layering pieces and exceptional denim staples, the capsule reinterprets many of the signature designs that ‘TWC’ has become so known and loved for. Moreover, the collaboration’s key pieces have been made by Mackintosh’s talented craftspeople in the brand’s state-of-the-art British outerwear factory.

TWC’s Design Director, Adam Cameron says: “I’ve been an admirer of Mackintosh for a long time. I first worked with the brand when I headed up the design team at Dunhill, and then again to create a special piece for the first Kingsman movie. The company’s reputation speaks for itself – it is one of the UK’s last great coat makers. Plus, Mackintosh owns the only British factory I know of that has mastered the art of seam taping outerwear. We’re thrilled to have finally been able to collaborate on a collection that combines Mackintosh’s manufacturing prowess with our best-selling outerwear and denim. I’m also proud to be able to say that our signature coat is now 100 per cent made in Britain.”

The coat in question is TWC’s Shell Jacket, made by Mackintosh with bonded and heat-sealed seams in superior quality Japanese cotton. The Shell Jacket is a year-round layering piece with a detachable hood, sizeable pockets and drawstring waist. It is designed to work as a multi-functional hybrid coat, into which the wearer can zip either a detachable gilet or bomber jacket for the perfect balance between lightness and warmth at different times of year.

Other outerwear designs include TWC’s denim trucker jackets in indigo and ecru, and a pair of gilets in soft Scottish-woven wool and quilted orange nylon shell. To sit alongside the Shell Jacket, Adam has also created a new version of TWC’s Reversible Bomber Jacket, made from printed technical seersucker with a contrast knitted collar, cuffs and hem. The final coat in the range is a navy Packable Parka, made from a lightweight three-layer bonded nylon, woven in Italy with a reflective drawstring waist sourced from Japan. Waterproof and featherweight, the Parka packs neatly into an internal pouch concealed in the coat’s back, which makes it the ideal travel companion during the cooler months.

True to form, the collection is rounded out with a selection of TWC slim and relaxed fit jeans. All TWC’s jeans are made in Okayama, Japan’s denim producing heartland, from hand-washed selvedge denim, to patterns that TWC has perfected over the course of the past five years. “At a time when many British manufacturers face great challenges, we’re thrilled to have brought this collection to life,” Cameron continues. “Both TWC and Mackintosh take huge pride in creating long-lasting, high-quality clothes that stand the test of time. We’re excited to be able to offer our customers a modern range that we believe is both extremely useful and worthwhile wardrobe investments, and to be flying the flag for made-in-Britain menswear in the process.”
